摘要: Escherichia coli phage phiEco32 encodes two proteins that bind to host RNA polymerase (RNAP): gp79, a novel protein, and gp36, distant homolog of σ(70) family proteins. Here, we investigated the temporal pattern gene expression during infection. Host transcription shutoff three distinct bacteriophage classes (early, middle, late) were revealed. A combination bioinformatic biochemical approaches allowed identification promoters recognized by RNAP holoenzyme containing factor. These are located upstream early genes. macroarray data, primer extension, in vitro analyses six an gp36. characterized single-consensus element tAATGTAtA middle late Curiously, inhibitor holoenzyme, activated gp36 vitro.
