摘要: The molecular weight distribution (MWD) of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was measured as a function the dose absorbed during γ-irradiation. MWD’s were obtained from gel-permeation chromatograms with aid an analog computer, applying essentially method proposed by Tung. If initial MWD rather broad, γ-irradiation caused it to become more narrow and, vice versa, if became broader upon irradiation. In all cases limiting value (Mw/Mn)=2 approached. This behavior meets expectations theory random degradation and is, therefore, taken evidence for radiation-induced main-chain scissioning PMMA.
