摘要: Aims and background Evidence that total parenteral nutrition (TPN) can stimulate tumor growth in humans is scanty contradictory. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact TPN on cell proliferation malnourished patients receiving preoperative TPN. Methods We evaluated variations S-phase fraction, defined as 3H-thymidine labeling index (TLI), before after 10 days or non-administration nutritional support 19 (weight loss, > = 10%) with gastric cancer. TLI determined endoscopic biopsies at time diagnosis, subsequently operative specimen through intraoperative sampling. Results At a higher median value observed control than group. Administration enhanced 50% patients; however, surgery there no difference two groups. Conclusions regimen seems be associated increased proliferation, even though stimulating effect moderate TLIs controls were not different. Although potential stimulation probably has little consequence for short-term nutrition, it may call further investigation cancer undergoing long-term home
