Pediatric provider processes for behavioral health screening, decision making, and referral in sites with colocated mental health services.

摘要: Objective Validated behavioral health (BH) screens are recommended for use at well-child visits. This study aimed to explore how pediatricians experience and these subsequent care decisions in primary care. Methods The took place 4 safety net centers. Fourteen interviews were conducted with who mandated validated BH Interview questions focused on key domains, including clinic context, screening processes, assessment of scores, decision making about referral mental services. Qualitative analysis used the Framework Approach. Results A variety themes emerged: well accepted valued way they facilitated discussion issues. However, results not always that instrument designers intended. Providers' beliefs face validity instruments, their observations performance led discounting scored results. As a result, clinical made based evidence, individual item responses, parent or patient concerns, perceived readiness treatment. Additionally, providers, although interested expanding discussions, lack time own skills be major obstacles this pursuit. Conclusions Screens act as important prompts stimulate problems, but actual play variable role problem identification treatment decisions. Modifications scheduling policies, additional provider training, enhanced collaboration professionals could support better integration pediatric
