Combined albendazole and praziquantel versus albendazole alone in the treatment of hydatid disease.

摘要: BACKGROUND/AIMS: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different regimens medical treatment in hydatid disease at Armed Forces Hospital, Riyadh. METHODOLOGY: Between April 1985 and August 1990 albendazole used alone 22 patients with disease, mainly liver. Since September 1990, we have a combination praziquantel 19 patients. RESULTS: For those treated only albendazole, 8 (36.4%) showed complete disappearance cyst, 4 which period ranged between 6 months 2 years. The other had ruptured liver cyst into biliary tree endoscopic recovery over short period. following results were found. During follow-up 3 years 2-6 there 9 (47.4%) 50% reduction 5 (36.84%). CONCLUSION: Combination for is more effective than alone.
