摘要: Abstract A total of 58 Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse farms that managed 1,987 weanlings yearlings responded to a survey designed better characterize early management racing prospects. Average age at weaning was 5.5 months over half all kept almost three-fourths be placed in pre-race training. Variation feeding practices evident while well provided balanced nutrient supply young horses, 20% 40% likely fed unbalanced diets. An obvious preference existed for semi-confinement horses with plenty free exercise. The majority reported prospects were moderate rate growth. Forced exercise occurred much larger extent than described the footing as soft, but not deep. Response prevalence developmental orthopedic diseases appeared somewhat guarded, average injury low on attributed playing too hard. Technological advancements such photoperiod manipulation broodmares widely used, valuable tools body condition scoring utilized lesser extent.
