Systematic Review of Peer-Reviewed Literature on Global Condom Promotion Programs

摘要: Background: Globally, 1.7 million people were newly infected with HIV in 2018. Condoms are inexpensive, cost-effective, reduce HIV/STI incidence, morbidity, mortality, and unintended pregnancies, result health care cost savings. Given the rapid increase at-risk adolescent young adult (AYA) populations countries high prevalence as well reductions donor support, promoting consistent condom use remains crucial. We synthesized all peer-reviewed literature on promotion programs a focus low lower middle income (LMIC) AYA users. Methods: systematically reviewed published literature. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methods, we identified 99 articles between 2000–2019. Results: Condom generally effective changing attitudes, social norms, beliefs favor of use, 85% demonstrated positive effects multiple measures. Programs targeting at least equally those others often showed greater best practices, such mass media (66%) audience segmentation (31%). also saw differences intervention strategies they used found marketing compared to overall sample. Conclusion: remain essential prevention, support must be maintained combat epidemic.
