Self-assembly of discotic molecules into mesoscopic crystals by solvent-vapour annealing

摘要: Solvent vapour annealing (SVA) is used to control the reorganization of ultrathin films three different polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons self-assembled on solid surfaces. To this end, two perylene-bis(dicarboximide) (PDI) derivatives exposing branched side alkyl chains with length and a dodecyl substituted hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) have been used, in view their n- p-type semiconducting nature. For all molecules, nanoscopic crystals grown from solution by spin-coating drop-casting undergo into sub-millimetric fibers, domes needles, proving general applicability SVA method. Moreover, such an approach exhibits mass transport molecules surfaces over hundreds microns. The self-healing through treatment leads decrease structural defects increase lateral size domains, ultimately providing improved 3D conjugation. Therefore can be considered important strategy potential enhance performance macroscopic organic electronic devices.
