摘要: A preliminary study was carried out to assess the parasitic burden of domesticated and free range chicken in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. total twenty birds where purchased from five popular markets Abeokuta namely, Itoku, Kuto, Lafenwa Osiele examined for presence parasites. The skin feathers were also combed check ectoparasites. Afterward, slaughtered intact gastro-intestinal tract then separated opened endoparasites. All parasites found collected into petri-dishes under microscope identification. Two species ectoparasites Menacanthus stramineus with a prevalence 90.0% Lipeurus caponis 60.0% recovered. Three endoparasites consisted two nematodes (Ascaridia galli Heterakis gallinarum) one cestode (Raillietina echinobothridia). Ascaridia Raillietina echinobothridia seen small intestine gallinarum caecum. had highest 80.0% followed by each prevalence. results show that free-range chickens carry high which could be big constraint their productivity commercial value.
