Recent incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus in children 0–14 years in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada climbs to over 45/100,000: a retrospective time trend study

摘要: To study and update the provincial incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in Newfoundland Labrador (NL), a province Canada with very high previously reported 2006, one highest incidences worldwide. This is retrospective time trend T1DM, children aged 0–14 years from 1987–2010 inclusive. Over period 931 were diagnosed T1DM. The T1DM this population over 1987 – 2010 inclusive was 37.7 per 100,000 year (95% CI 35. 3, 40.2) 2007–2010 49.9 42.2, 57.6). 24 increased by factor 1.03 year. NL has Potential reasons for could be related to unique genetic background population, northern latitude vitamin D insufficiency, low breastfeeding rates, rates cesarean section.
