URINARY SCHISTOSOMIASIS AMONG SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN IN SOME RURAL COMMUNITIES OF ABIA STATE, SOUTH EASTERN NIGERIA

摘要: The prevalence of urinary schistosomiasis in school age children Azumini, a endemic community Ukwa East Local Government Area Abia State was studied. Early morning urine samples were collected clean, transparent, screw cap plastic bottle and transported to the laboratory for examination. These examined both macroscopically microscopically using standard Sedimentation method. A well-structured pre-tested questionnaire administered relevant information’s obtained from 720 between January December, 2012. An overall 53.8% observed study. sex pattern infection showed higher males (60.5 %) than females (43.9 %). subjects aged 10 – 14 had highest 70.3%.The sensitivity haematuria proteinuria in  Schistosoma infected patients 50.6% 35.9% respectively. Subjects who exposed river as source water supply 80.1% with tap having least. result that there is high studied community. Poor knowledge causative agent subsequent means transmission has contributed recorded. Provision potable proper health education recommended eradication disease.
