摘要: The last two decades turned a corollarium of the chemiosmotic theory (positively charged Ca 2 + ions are rapidly accumulated by energized mitochondria) into biological process utmost physiological and pathological relevance. Indeed, mitochondrial uptake, buffering cytosolic regulating intraorganellar effectors, controls aerobic metabolism, cell-specific functions, initiation cell death apoptosis necrosis. Accordingly, alterations in this crucial component cellular calcium homeostasis play key role pathogenesis human diseases. recent identification molecules involved transport across ion-impermeable inner membrane now opens way to detailed mechanistic investigation translational applications.
