摘要: Abstract Mathematical modeling of sedimentation has attracted considerable attention in the past decades, and nowadays, one most popular models secondary settler activated sludge processes is proposed by Takacs et al. [I. Takacs, G.G. Patry, D. Nolasco, A dynamic model clarification-thickening process, Water Res. 25 (10) (1991) 1263–1271]. This based on a discretization finite volumes (or layers) spatial domain, rather inconsistent way, number layers usually considered as parameter chosen so to fit experimental data. In this study, simple convection–diffusion partial differential equation (PDE) first formulated solved using Method Lines strategy allowing use various methods with largely improved accuracy efficiency. Model parameters are estimated data collected batch settling experiments De Clercq [J. Clercq, Batch continuous sludge: in-depth monitoring 1D compression modeling, Ph.D. Thesis, Universiteit Gent, Faculteit Ingenieurswetenschappen, Belgium, 2006], showing good predictive capability. Finally, PDE coupled standard ASM1 representation implemented MATLAB simulator.
