摘要: Abstract Steady-state solutions are described for a variety of two-layer models the vertical distributions phytoplankton and nutrient under stratification constant grazing. The different versions incorporate: variable cell quota, multiple forms (e.g. nitrate ammonia), chemical storage light energy, photoadaptation. In each case mixed layer is assumed to be limited while thermocline light-limited. demonstrate that wide range may examined in this way, reveal common properties which illustrate interaction these processes stratified environment. such models, daily mean values approach steady conditions within days, even when diurnal cycle present. Analysis shows that, as result balance thermocline, all have four characteristic properties. These featurses, can also derived there several species by nutrient, shown part dynamics complex ecosystem model (MULES) though system does not achieve conditions. This suggests nutrients often close being equilibrium with grazers present at any time. General expressions self-shading considered give an improved representation MULES results. analysis using layers provides theoretical understanding dynamical behavior models. relationships presented, e.g. response changing treatment self-shading, appear sufficiently universal sought observationally.
