摘要: Resource wealth in Australia is often presented as an asset, waiting to be exploited. Reflecting this, the recent resource boom unquestioned indeed celebrated--as a great windfall for Australian people. There broad-based assumption that Australia's resource-based economy successfully diversified later twentieth century, while retaining foundation agricultural exports, and latterly minerals. As saying goes, country rode prosperity 'on sheep's back', then on back of mining sector. The resources may seen simply latest phase process, pump-priming country's twenty-first century information-age service economy. The has undoubtedly been key economic growth. But how far should it welcomed? This article debates impact Australia, arguing we at very least willing discuss whether this presumed blessing is, many, fact 'curse disguise. In context accelerated climate change, continuing rural crisis salutary reminded what Sheik Ahmed Yamani, long-time Oil Minister Saudi Arabia, said regard their major asset: 'All all, I wish had discovered water' (quoted Ross 1999).
