Radical Common Sense: Community Provision of Injectable Contraception in Africa

摘要: Sub-Saharan Africa lags far behind the rest of world in use family planning. Myriad factors contribute to low contraceptive prevalence region, but clearly, existing demand is not being met, and governments, donors non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have failed ensure access a range options for Africa’s people. Rural areas are particularly neglected: clinics few between, typically offer planning choices. This chapter describes recent innovation sub-Saharan that began diffuse when four determining came into play simultaneously: (1) high unmet need contraception, (2) strong preference injectable methods, (3) critical shortage clinical health workers, (4) existence under-utilized, community-based programs. The result was logical, radical: provision continent’s favorite by its lowest level workers.
