摘要: This study was conducted to understand the effect of coastal shrimp farming on water quality properties in surrounding area a semi-intensive culture system Mafia Island, Tanzania. Monthly samples were collected from six stations located within ponds, inlet creek and outlet/effluent creek, June, 2008 May, 2009, November, 2009 March, 2010. The used for analysis selected parameters following standard procedures. data obtained analyzed using one way ANOVA significant differences accepted at p ? 0.05. Post Hoc Turkeys’ test determine specific which sources differences. Correlation co-efficient (r) performed establish relation between independent dependent parameters. Results showed that DO, salinity, NH 4 -N, NO 2 -N PO -P significantly (p 0.05) recorded terms temperature, EC chlorophyll- . High positive correlations (r = 0.646–0.927) dissolved nutrients is an indication common origin these is, mineralization organic materials. In general, concentrations all analysed desirable acceptable limits marine ecosystems. To sustain present conditions it being recommended adopt better farm husbandry as well treating effluent materials before discharging them medium. would provide essential information further studies can be carried out evaluate environmental impacts aquaculture and, supports protection decision making sustainable development areas. Keywords : Semi-intensive culture, Water quality, inorganic nutrients, impacts, Island.
