Determinants of cigarette/bidi smoking among youth male in rural Mymensingh of Bangladesh: A cross-sectional study.

摘要: BACKGROUND Smoking cigarette/bidi, is a serious health threat, causes preventable premature morbidity and mortality. Higher prevalence of smoking among the youth hampers country's development, as are main drivers socio-economic development. An effective understanding factors associated with precious to prevent smoking. This study aims identify determinants cigarette/bidi male rural areas Mymensingh district in Bangladesh. METHODS The primary data from project "Knowledge, awareness practices smokers Trishal Upazila under district: A micro-survey study", funded by Research Extension Center, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Bangladesh was utilized current study. consists 385 males aged 15-24 years who were interviewed face-to-face Univariate distribution, chi-square tests, binary logistic regression model employed male. RESULTS 40.3% [95% CI: 35.0%-45.0%]. Age, occupation, monthly income, family's status father, brother close friends, knowledge about harmfulness revealed For instance, odds being smoker increases increase age (Odds ratio [OR]: 1.33 [1.17-1.51]). Business owner less likely (OR: 0.15 [0.03-0.68]) smoke than day labourer. Having fathers 2.51 [1.39-4.53]), brothers 2.88 [1.39-5.96]), friends 9.85 [5.85-1.27]) significantly cigarette/bidi. CONCLUSION As first study, it provides Relevant authorities suggested consider study's findings recommendations revise existing policies so that can be prevented for future development country.
