摘要: The alga has been identified that threatens to smother Californian coastal ecosystems. recent discovery of the marine green Caulerpa taxifolia on coast1,2 raised public concern about potential danger a new invasion similar one endured by Mediterranean Sea over past decade. A small colony C. introduced into in 19843,4 from aquarium5 spread more than 6,000 hectares today, outcompeting native species and seriously reducing diversity areas northwestern Mediterranean6. This invasive strain differs tropical populations it is much larger, grows vigorously, does not rely sexual reproduction, resistant low temperatures4,6,7. Here we evaluate risk comparing genetically with aquarium strain, as well populations. Our results show same calling for its rapid eradication prevent invasion.
