摘要: Recent models of speech perception emphasize the possibility interactions among different processing levels. There is evidence that lexical status an utterance (i.e., whether it a meaningful word or not) may influence earlier stages perceptual analysis. To test how far down such ‘‘top‐down’’ influences might penetrate, investigation was conducted to determine there difference in detectability words and nonwords masked by amplitude‐modulated unmodulated broadband noise. The results were negative, suggesting either analysis engaged detection task are impermeable top‐down effects, level not sufficiently activated have any facilitative effect on perception.
