摘要: Abstract Phagocytic cells inhibit the growth of intracellular pathogens by producing nitric oxide (NO). NO causes cell filamentation, induction SOS response, and DNA replication arrest in Gram-negative bacterium Salmonella enterica. also induces double-stranded chromosomal breaks replication-arrested lacking a functional RecBCD exonuclease. This damage depends on actions additional repair proteins, RecG helicase, RuvC endonuclease. Introduction recG mutation restores both resistance to ability an attenuated recBC mutant strain cause lethal infection mice, demonstrating that bacterial is inhibited during host–pathogen interactions. Inhibition nitrosative stress invariably accompanied zinc mobilization, implicating DNA-binding metalloproteins as critical targets NO-related antimicrobial activity.
