The Breeding System and Distribution of Tetrahymena pyriformis.

摘要: SUMMARY. Seven hundred twenty samples of water from 46 states and the province Ontario, Canada, were collected examined for Tetrahymena pyriformis. Thirty-four clonal cultures ciliate isolated 154 (21%) positive grown axenically in peptone medium. The breeding behavior strains these 154, sources was investigated by mixing various combinations. Eight yielded selfing 52 capable mating only certain Thirty new types seven non-interbreeding varieties discovered. Ninety collections non-conjugating strains. Fifty proved to be amicronucleate.
