摘要: Up-to-date data on the burden of disease are important to identify patients with unmet needs and optimize healthcare resources. We aimed characterize pneumonia hospitalizations in Hong Kong inform targeted policies for control era global aging. This was a population-based study using territory-wide administrative electronic health record system that covers all public hospitals Kong. Patients admitted hospitals, from 2011 2015, diagnosis at discharge were identified based International Classification Diseases-Ninth Revision-Clinical Modification Codes (480–486 487.0). Incidence, inpatient case-fatality, all-cause fatality, 28-day readmission, hospital length stay, costs assessed seven age strata. 323,992 (median 80 years, 44.4% female) hospitalized (organism unspecified 84.2%; bacterial 12.3%; viral 2.5%; others 1.0%). Annual incidence 955.1 per 100,000 population, 10.6% decrease 2015. Case-fatality, 28-days readmission risks 13.8, 21.6, 19.5%, respectively. The average stay 14.1 days corresponding direct $9348 USD episode monetary value Individuals aged ≥ 65 years accounted over 75% pneumonia-related hospitalizations, 90% deaths, majority costs. Hospitalized represents considerable economic Kong, especially older adults. provides population-level baseline estimate further cost-effective evaluation strategies control.
