摘要: In the Bolsena volcanic district (Vulcani Vulsini) near little town of Pitigliano, at border between Latium and Tuscany, a lava sheet showing quite peculiar geological features has been examined in all its macro microscopic aspects. Such deposit is an interesting example uncommon products originated by Quaternary alkaline mediterranean volcanism. The Pitigliano was erupted from NW section Latera caldera, covered area about 6×12 km mantaining extremely small thickness (from feet to few yards). This normally made leucitic entirely so densely microvesiculated as be better called pumice. At flanks, expecially front sheet, rock gets piperno-like or welded tuff aspect. different facies transitions them have carefully studied interpreted.
