Why Do Blacks and Women Have High Unemployment Rates?

摘要: This paper analyzes differences in the duration, turnover, and distribution of unemployment by race, sex, age, occupation. Data are drawn primarily from Work Experience Surveys conducted since 1964. We find that high job turnover accounts for relatively rates observed among blacks general, young people both races, individuals unskilled occupations. However, women, especially white women childbearing experience higher because they unemployed longer between jobs.
