摘要: Abstract Low-lying reef islands are considered highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Accelerating rates sea level rise as a result anthropogenic change expected destabilise and threaten render entire nations uninhabitable. Using historic aerial photographs recent high-resolution satellite imagery, shoreline changes on six atolls two mid-ocean in Republic Marshall Islands were analysed. Results reveal that since middle 20th century more has accreted than eroded, with 17.23% showing erosion, compared 39.74% accretion 43.03% no The net these was growth examined from 9.09 km2 9.46 km2 between World War Two (WWII) 2010. Analyses 1970s show shorelines accreting albeit at slower rate, 2010 0.29 m/dec 0.77 m/dec WWII 1970s. observed occur context locally rising level. As continues there is critical need for regular monitoring order better understand spatio-temporal variability island guide future adaptation efforts within atoll nations.
