摘要: Objective: To evaluate the dietary patterns of adults living in city Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and their associations with body mass index (BMI). Research Methods Procedures: A survey was conducted 1996 a probabilistic sample 2040 households. Weight height were measured food intake based on an 80-item semi-quantitative frequency questionnaire. Dietary identified through factor analysis. Results: More than one-third adult population (20 to 60 years old) overweight (BMI = 25 29.9 kg/m2), 12% obese ≥ 30 kg/m2). Three major identified: mixed pattern when all groups items had about same loading, except for rice beans; one that relies mainly beans, which called traditional diet; third pattern, termed Western diet, where fat (butter margarine) added sugar (sodas) showed highest positive loading beans strong negative components. Among men, diet also included deep-fried snacks milk products high values. The associated lower risk overweight/obesity logistic models adjusted dieting, age, leisure physical activity, occupation (13% reduction men 14% women comparing diets). Discussion: Factors contributing effects Brazilian may include low-energy density, high-dietary fiber content, incorporation low glycemic foods such as or relatively variety.
