Psychometric Properties of the Person-Centered Version of the Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Perceptions Questionnaire (PC-AAPPQ)

摘要: Aims Given the importance of addressing provider attitudes toward individuals with unhealthy alcohol use and current emphasis on person-centered language to help decrease stigma mitigate negative attitudes, aim this study was evaluate psychometric properties a contemporary version Alcohol Problems Perception Questionnaire (AAPPQ) that uses addresses spectrum use. Methods The authors created AAPPQ (PC-AAPPQ) conducted cross-sectional its in academic settings Northeastern United States. PC-AAPPQ administered 651 nursing students. Reliability analysis new instrument performed using total sample. Only surveys complete data (n = 637) were randomly split into two datasets, one used for exploratory factor (EFA) 310) other confirmatory (CFA) 327). Results Compared all models generated from EFA, neither original six-factor structure nor five-factor superior any models. results indicate seven-factor 30 items is best fit PC-AAPPQ. Conclusions represents positive effort modernize four-decade-old AAPPQ. This 30-item instrument, which adds additional subscale, offers means assess providers' respectful wording avoids perpetuating biases reinforces efforts affirm worth dignity population being treated.
