摘要: Europe is one of the world's most densely populated continents and has a long history human-dominated land- seascapes. also at forefront developing implementing multinational conservation efforts. In this contribution, we describe some top policy issues in that need to be informed by high-quality science. These include evaluation effectiveness Natura 2000 network protected sites, implications rapid economic subsequent land-use change Central Eastern Europe, marine biodiversity sustainability fisheries, effect climate on movement species highly fragmented landscapes, attempts assess value ecosystem services biodiversity. Broad such as those identified are not easily amenable scientific experiment. A key challenge science–policy interface identify research questions underlying these problem areas so science can provide evidence underpin future development.
