The impact of social networks on hybrid seed adoption in India

摘要: This article adds to the literature about impact of social networks on adoption modern seed technologies among smallholder farmers in developing countries. The analysis centers hybrid wheat and pearl millet India. In local context, both crops are cultivated mainly a subsistence basis, they provide examples at very different diffusion stages: while was commercialized India only 2001, launched 1965. is based surveys state Maharashtra. Comprehensive data farmer characteristics interactions allow for identifying individual networks, thereby improving upon previous research approaches that employed village-level variables as proxies network effects.
