摘要: Dysphagia is common in patients with dementia of varying types and often results serious health consequences, including malnutrition, dehydration, aspiration pneumonia, even death. Due to progressive cognitive functional decline, experience difficulties throughout the eating process which encompasses all aspects self-feeding swallowing function. Variations underlying neuropathology disease severity may influence specific swallow disorders observed. New neuroimaging modalities offer exciting possibilities increase understanding neural control that will lead design novel treatments. Current treatment approaches include a combination compensatory strategies for swallowing, cueing from caregivers, modifications dining maximize independence during mealtime. A new focus on development regimens, possibly involving taste smell receptor stimulation rehabilitative exercise be implemented prodromal stages dementia, necessary prevent or delay further decline.
