Facilitating clinical trials: The expanding role of the nurse

摘要: Clinical trials are becoming increasingly difficult to carry out in the face of a changing health care delivery system. The reluctance third party payers reimburse for experimental therapy and growing practice providers limit resources allocated cancer patients undergoing such therapies seriously curtail ability investigators test new treatments clinically. In addition, certain beliefs, attitudes, perceptions held by public may interfere with patient case accrual. Nurses can help facilitate both accrual conduct clinical research. This article addresses selected consumer- provider-centered factors that inhibit expanding role nurse areas education, informed consent, direct care, collaborative research is also described.
