摘要: NATURALLY occurring long thin threads of cellulose, the so-called microfibrils, vary in width from about 100 A bacterial, most algal and all higher plants, to more than 200 some marine algae (for example, Valonia Cladophorales). Two schools thought have developed concerning internal structure microfibrils. Ranby1, Preston2 Ellefsen et al.3 conclude electron microscopy, qualitative X-ray analysis various chemical treatments that each microfibril contains a single crystalline core, same order size as microfibril. Although smaller for example may well fasciate give broader structures, broad microfibrils exceptional seaweeds are not multiples narrower fibrillar bodies. Frey-Wyssling Muhlethaler4–6 Manley7, on other hand, maintain microscopical evidence points presence linear bodies 35 wide which they call “elementary fibrils”. They thickness differs steps A, dependent number included elementary fibrils. The reliability this has already been called into question by Colvin8. We attempted resolve controversy determining crystal dimensions variety different sizes conditions closely resembling those living organism. Our findings, mostly using method high-angle line-broadening, but supported low-angle scattering presented here, details will be published elsewhere.
