摘要: This research study was designed to evaluate several options for using the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer (APA) assess moisture damage potential of hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures. The which were interest in this specimen type (beams or cylinders), load application (direct contact with steel wheels loading through pneumatic hoses), conditioning samples prior testing (saturation and freeze/thaw no conditioning) condition (dry submerged water). Several response variables also considered assessing mixture stripping including deformation (rut depth), secondary slope, inflection point a variety ratios wet dry and/or conditioned unconditioned companion sets. Tests performed on two mixtures known field performance. One used granite aggregate has history poor performance regard stripping; other limestone that had problems actual pavements. Test responses from each test option combination analyzed determine if conditions yielded results consistent these different set ups appeared provide reasonable results. However, single universally acceptable all variables. Each variable unique provided correct ranking It evident use wheel much more severe than pressurize hoses. Pre-conditioning by saturation water freeze thaw cycle appears be key factor. These may help better distinction between good performance, but they increase variability More is needed greater range materials conclusively establish reliable procedure criteria.
