摘要: With "Inclusion", Steven Epstein argues that strategies to achieve diversity in medical research mask deeper problems, ones might require a different approach and solutions. Formal concern with this issue, shows, is fairly recent phenomenon. Until the mid-1980s, scientists often studied groups of white, middle-aged men - assumed conclusions drawn from studying them would apply rest population. But struggles involving advocacy groups, experts, Congress led reforms forced researchers diversify population which they drew for clinical research. While prominence these inclusive practices has offered hope traditionally undeserved it attention away tremendous inequalities health are rooted not biology but society.
