摘要: Abstract Background Operative treatment of geriatric tibial plateau fractures is challenging and controversial. There are few studies focusing on the clinical features operative outcomes in elderly. Hence, this study aimed to investigate results these fractures. Methods Thirty-three displaced patients >65 years old (mean age: 72.1 years, range: 65–94 years) were treated operatively. We investigated mechanisms injury, fracture types according Schatzker classification, incidences soft tissue postoperative complications. Clinical radiographic data analyzed 23 at last follow-up. The mean follow-up period was 4.0 (range: 1–13 years). Twenty-one with open reduction internal fixation evaluated using Rasmussen radiologic scores. Two advanced osteoarthritis primarily total knee arthroplasty assessed Japanese Orthopaedic Association score for osteoarthritis. Results Twenty-four (72.7%) injured by low-energy trauma such as a simple fall. Four had compartment syndrome required fasciotomies. scores satisfactory 85.7% 81.0% patients, respectively. showed no abnormality, their both 70 points. Conclusions Geriatric fractures, although mostly due trauma, often accompanied severe comminution syndrome. Postoperative population relatively good. Therefore, primary should only be considered well-selected patients.
