摘要: This paper contributes to the debate on link between poverty and artisanal small‐scale mining (ASM) – low‐tech, labour‐intensive mineral extraction processing in sub‐Saharan Africa. It specifically seeks advance discussion idea that throughout region, sector’s operators are trapped a vicious cycle of poverty. Drawing upon ongoing research being conducted marginalized women engaged ASM Ghana, an attempt is made further nuance ‘poverty trap‐ASM’ narrative. In context Africa, debates this issue should focus challenges faced by groups such as women, particular how their growing dependence monies earned from sector for livelihoods has increased vulnerability.
