Eurasian otter ( Lutra lutra ) diet and prey selection in Mediterranean streams invaded by centrarchid fishes

摘要: The diet of the Iberian otter (Lutra lutra) was determined by analysing 547 spraints collected at 28 sites within a wide area invaded centrarchid fishes (pumpkinseed sunfish, Lepomis gibbosus and largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides): middle Guadiana basin (South-west Peninsula). Fish otters’ main prey, representing more than 60% total individuals 80% biomass. Otters preyed on most fish species captured in field; however, consumption centrarchids low compared to their abundance streams, Jacobs’ index preference showed clear rejection both otter. Consumption native genera (Squalius, Barbus Chondrostoma) otters increased relation increase environment.
