摘要: Laboratory test results indicate that many geosynthetic interfaces in liners and covers for waste containment exhibit strain-softening behavior. A peak shear strength is mobilized at small displacements, but post-peak reductions occur with increasing displacement. Mechanisms contribute to include clay particle reorientation, polishing, failure. Test obtained from direct torsional ring devices are summarized illustrate these mechanisms. The design implications of behavior then investigated using analytical numerical models. Deformations the under gravity sufficient cases limit available resistance along an interface less than strength. It recommended a factor safety greater one be achieved all system slope designs, assuming residual strengths base entire system.
