摘要: Marine reserves are a promising tool for recovering overfished ecosystems. However, designed to rebuild profits in the long-term may cause short-term losses-a serious issue regions where fisheries key food security. We examine tension between benefits of and losses, using multispecies model coral reef fisheries. Reserves maximize caused significant losses. several policy solutions, we incrementally increased either: number months per year that reserve is closed fishing; size reserve; or species protected within reserve. Protecting sequentially, starting with most valued species, provided best outcome rapid recovery profits. Solving dilemma meeting short- goals will ultimately improve effectiveness marine managing conserving
