摘要: Background and study aims Portal vein thrombosis is a rare event in patients with liver cirrhosis the absence of related neoplasm. Endoscopic sclerotherapy esophageal varices has been anecdotally associated development portal thrombosis. We tested hypothesis that genetic thrombophilia plays role undergoing endoscopic sclerotherapy. Patients methods From June 1998 to December 1999, 61 consecutive underwent multiple sessions for bleeding varices. Doppler ultrasound was performed before every 3 months thereafter. Antiphospholipid antibodies, factor V Leiden (FVL) mutation, prothrombin mutation G20210A (PTHRA20210) TT677 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR C677T) were evaluated all patients. Results developed 16 % (10 61) after mean follow-up period months. A cause found 70 who occlusion, but only 8 without this complication. Conclusions may represent trigger cirrhotic thrombophilia.
