摘要: Research on ecosystem services has focused mostly natural areas or remote places, with less attention given to urban and their relationship technological change. However, recent work by ecologists designers more closely examined appreciated the opportunities associated integrating built infrastructures. Nevertheless, a perception remains in literature that technology may easily irreversibly substitute for previously obtained from ecosystems, especially when superiority of engineered system motivated replacement first place. We emphasize expected tradeoff between manufactured capital is false. Rather, as argued other contexts, adoption new technologies complementary management. The complementarity illustrated case study Barcelona, Spain where installation sophisticated water treatment increased value found there. Interestingly, infrastructures remain even very ecosystems are affected This finding suggests we can expect co-evolve technologies. Technological innovation generate harness structures cities reliance processes, not less.
