摘要: Recent theoretical work suggests that attenuation of acoustic waves in ocean sediments depends on two distinct types energy loss; these losses result from inelasticity the skeletal frame and motion pore water relative to frame. In this paper, experimental evidence is presented which verifies type response predicted by model. Torsional resonance logarithmic decrement are measured over a wide frequency range both water‐saturated dry sediments. A changeover dominance one loss other clearly demonstrated change observed as varied. Specially designed equipment used allows intergranular stress be controlled simulate various depths embedment sea floor. Both theory experiments suggest for some will vary manner quite different usual dependency first power often assumed.
