摘要: Scope An increased intake of Zinc (Zn) may reduce the risk degenerative diseases but prove to be toxic if taken in excess. This study aimed investigate whether zinc carnosine supplement can improve Zn status, genome stability events, and transporter gene expression an elderly (65–85 years) South Australian cohort with low plasma levels. Methods results A 12-week placebo-controlled intervention trial was performed 84 volunteers completing study, (placebo, n = 42) (Zn group, 42). Plasma significantly (p < 0.05) by 5.69% supplemented group after 12 weeks. A significant decrease micronucleus frequency (−24.18%) observed for relative baseline compared placebo group. Reductions −7.09% tail moment −8.76% intensity were (relative baseline) 0.05). Telomere base damage found also decreased Both MT1A ZIP1 showed a increase 0.05). Conclusion Zn supplementation have beneficial effect population levels improving antioxidant profile, lowering DNA damage.
