Compressibility behaviour of bentonite and organically modified bentonite slurry

摘要: Bentonite in slurry walls needs to be amended with organo-clay control the migration of organic contaminants. Consolidation behaviour is important because it will reduce total effective stress owing mobilisation frictional force between side wall trench and slurry. Compressibility bentonite expected undergo significant changes amendment according nature fluid. Standard one-dimensional consolidation tests were carried out on slurries bentonite, their mixtures by remoulding them respective liquid limit consistency water as well fluids low polarity, such carbon tetrachloride, inundating different fluids. Organo-clay its mixture when moulded exhibit lower compressibility than any pore fluid, but increases tetrachloride inundated same These are explained particle rearrangements, development diffuse double layer contribution from adsorbed inter-lamellar space clay.
