摘要: Background The prevalence of smoking among secondary school children continues to remain unchanged over the last 3 decades even though awareness regarding health effects is increasing. Common misconceptions about and parental influence could be factors influencing future intentions smoke these students. Hence, we looked at common as well student perceptions their intention Form 4 students in Shah Alam, Malaysia. Materials methods This study was conducted by distribution a questionnaire developed part Global Youth Tobacco Survey schools Alam. Results Prevalence (current smokers) 7.5%. Almost half came from families where one or both parents smoked third had no discussion consequences with them. A large number were classified "triers" they tried unsure whether would not future. Contrary our expectations, generally felt did make feel more uncomfortable helped reduce body weight. Most seemed aware ill-effects on health. They received adequate information Conclusions Our showed that Alam knowledgeable taught so curriculum, still high. Students "trier group" represent potential group smokers strategies targeting tobacco control may aimed tackling vulnerable individuals. Efforts are also needed help educate dispel myths associated cigarette smoking.
