摘要: Abstract Radar altimeter data from TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1 microwave radiometer TRMM/TMI are used to investigate the large-scale variability between 10.5°S 35.5°S in South Atlantic Ocean. The proposed method for analysis of longitude–time diagrams cross-correlation SSH SST anomalies shows that mid latitudes is a blend first-mode baroclinic Rossby waves propagating mesoscale eddy-like structures. estimated phase speed wave (cp) propagation eddies (cv) similar. In 70% cases, absolute difference cp cv less than 11%. 40% cases this 5%. Statistical results indicate case eddies, as thermocline deepens sea surface temperature rises vice-versa. However, planetary show more complex, yet self-consistent results. lower (10.5°S–15.5°S), shallower weak thermal gradients impose zero lag height, similar eddies. Poleward those latitudes, height quadrature phase. This indicates geostrophic advection relatively stronger gradient performed by waves.
