摘要: This chapter discusses the fabrication, modeling, and some applications of fused fiber couplers. The basic fuse-pull-taper method has been described in detail. A simple accurate modeling algorithm presented to analyze 2 × coupler-based branching components. analysis is based on perturbation correction technique mode calculation, devised with a finite difference (FD) field convergence approach. Realistic models for “fusion elongation” are used take into account axially varying coupler cross-section evaluated mode-coupling properties semivectorial form supermodes between. Elongation response many coupling-cycle long couplers exhibiting polarization modulation “bunchup” effect, as recorded during real-time monitoring, accurately predicted through this model. For practical components few coupling cycles, analysis, mapping cycles spectral-splitting ratio, yields an important design parameter, namely pulled length that be realize component desired characteristics at given monitoring wavelength. Thus, successfully explains all experimentally observed fabricated should very useful guideline having specifications. It also presents several relevant optical communications.
