摘要: Abstract Concerns over climate change and peak oil motivate examining the relationship between built environment (BE) individual fuel consumption. Most studies overlook BE characteristics at workplace locations. They often estimate use based on travel distance instead of actual This practice ignores other influential mechanisms. study uses naturalistic driving data 660 personal vehicles in Beijing. We apply a structural equations model to examine multiple mechanisms under which residential affects consumption directly indirectly through distance, speed, driver behavior, controlling for effect street along commute route. found that all three mediating variables are associated with vehicular commute. The has more important than BE, particularly regarding from city center. highlights role job-housing balance commuting reduction.
