摘要: 1 Abstract The methods of analytical target cascading (ATC) and collaborative optimization (CO) are studied with respect to their intended use applicability. ATC was initially developed as a product development tool, while CO evolved from eorts coordinate multidisciplinary analyses using design (MDO) formulation. used typically solve object-based discipline-based decomposed system problems, respectively. Their mathematical formulations appear be similar although they were dierent motivations. article defines compares terminologies for each approach shows that has unique applicability solution process. Two new example problems employed illustrate the distinctions between CO. first elucidates how method can same problem. second uses formulation, nested ATC-MDO, complementary nature. In this formulation is partitioned by object, objects discipline. coordinates elements an MDO method, such CO, element. maps well organizational matrix structures. overall study demonstrates benefits strategies in solving complex problems.
